Retro-Fit Box 500

Details

For existing construction - to be retro fit into an existing drywalled 2x6 wall. With a white powder coated finish, it does not need to be painted. Please review these instructions before purchasing as there may be obstacles and special tools needed. Since the majority of "mechanical walls" or walls behind the washer and dryer are deeper than 3.5 inches to accommodate the 4 inch dryer conduit and other mechanical fittings, it is likely the Model 500 Retro Fit will be the most appropriate and efficient option. The Model 500 exhibits a round hole or port.

Had someone install it for me. Works like a charm. Wish we had done it sooner. Thanks so much for a great product!

Dryer Box Retrofit 500 Series

by Allyn| 7/12/2014 12:00:00 am

I saw this concept at my son's place and thought what a great idea. Their box was installed when the house was built so I sought out to find one like it. Came across this model and after checking the depth of the studs made the order and it came very quickly. I figured it would take a few hours to install however, for me I ran into a few obstacles, nothing that the box created just the installer. First I cut the hole a smidge to narrow and the gas line was in front of the hole making the install a little more difficult. Plus there was a cleat on the back side of the wall that I had to remove. Once done I made the install using the flush piece adapter for the vent pipe. I found that fitting this by hand was not secure enough when I put the dryer vent hose on so I used a block of wood and hammer to force it place a bit. Once that was done the hose went on just right and my dryer now sits near the wall like I have always wanted it to. Great product, and a great price, and just what I needed. The dryer has been working much better without the restriction of flow from the vent line. Over all time to install was about 4 hours due to the issues my house gave me and only a half dozen cuss words so easy install for me!

Worked great. Solved my problem getting dryer closer to wall by allowing bend to occur within box area. Rugged construction. Would recommend to anyone retrofitting dryer vent.

Dryerbox 2x6 retrofit

by Frank| 9/26/2011 12:00:00 am

I'm 59 and the hardest part about installing this item was fitting myself between the dryer and the drywall. I should have taken the time to remove the dryer completely. I used a cutting tool on a Dremel to cut the drywall and base; a wood chisel and a tin snips. It took me about 1/2 hour to install. My wife believes that the dryer is operating more effeciently and we gained about 15 inches of floor space by having the dryer pushed back nearly flush with the wall.

Dryerbox 2x6 retrofit

by Mike| 11/11/2011 12:00:00 am

Bottom line is that I'm very happy with it and the install instructions were very good. I did have a problem because the hole was in the wrong place for my exhaust pipe and the wall stud next to it. I had to take the dryerbox to a local metal shop and they filled the existing hole and cut a new one based on my measurements. Then it worked perfectly. I wish they had the option of buying one without the hole, so you could cut your own.

Durable construction

by Roose| 6/13/2014 12:00:00 am

You don't see many things like this made from metal anymore, every thing is made of plastic. This is a nice piece of steel that will make my laundry room better even though I won't be able to see it.

Exactly what I needed!

by Al| 3/15/2015 12:00:00 am

After rehab of a small laundry area, I knew door clearance was going to be tight. This insert allowed me to reclaim several inches of clearance. Install was fairly easy and the finished wall/insert looked great. I ordered an extension pipe, flex vent and clamps. Everything was of great quality. Now, I have that worry-free dryer connection so I can move on to other projects.

Easy install. Perfect

by David| 8/12/2015 12:00:00 am

I like the quality of the box. It is nice and sturdy. The installation was straight forward and easy. I did the job in less than an hour. Looks Great!

Excellent Product

by Michael| 7/25/2014 12:00:00 am

I ordered this box after I had seen similar boxes used in new construction homes. I have a very small laundry room and I needed the extra space gained by having the box mounted in the wall. This box was perfect. It was much stronger (heavier) than I had imagined and it fit perfectly. The quality of construction and clear instructions made it easy to install. A superb product at a reasonable price!

excellent product and service

Fabulous product

by Gail| 7/6/2015 12:00:00 am

I found this online and had my husband install in our new lakehouse. Wish the mechanical contractor had suggested it prior to drywall but we are thrilled. Lucked out with stud placement. Thanks for making a great product.

Finally I can push my Dryer against the wall!!

by Altier| 3/25/2015 12:00:00 am

I have a very small laundry room and I was never able to push the dryer against the wall; I always had to have it tilted at about 30 degrees. With this Model 500 Retro-Fit Box 2x6 I can finally push my dryer up against the wall!! I installed it myself along with the DryerTrap Secondary Lint trap, which required going to the local Home Depot, getting a metal tube to fit below the trap, some tin snips to get them to length, and I used a piece of sheet metal for extra support underneath the lint trap. A little drywall patching later and my laundry room is how it should have been when the house was built. Thank you DryerTrap!!! xD :)

Good Product

by Brian| 8/17/2013 12:00:00 am

Recently moved into a home and wanted to be able to push the dryer as close to wall as possible. This item worked perfectly. The unit is sturdy and powder coating is durable. I had no issue passing my existing dryer duct through the provided hole. THe item was promply shipped out and I received in a timely manner. I would buy this item again.

Great product

by CS| 7/29/2013 12:00:00 am

Used the RB500 for my laundry room remodeling. As a retrofit, the box mounts well against drywall. With some mudding finesse, the RB500, can be made to look seamless. The hard duct piece, that came with this mdeol, is slightly challenging to work into the oval cutout but fit perfect. Caution should be used when connecting your dryer hose to the oval duct; push too hard and you will push the duct through the hole. Suggestion for improving: include a flange that can be slipped around the duct and allows the user to add a couple screws to the duct and RB500 near the pre-cut holes. This will prevent any end user from pushing the duct too hard and through the hole, after install. Great product!

Handyman Husband

I have a bottom discharge and I turned the unit upside down. It worked great. The dryer is against the wall, my wife is happy, what more could I hope for.

Someone should have come up with this idea a long time ago. The difference between the old dryer vent box I removed and the new one is night and day. Great product! I'm 63 and I installed it myself. Just follow the instructions and think a little before you start.

MODEL 500 RETRO-FIT 2X6

by KAROL| 6/2/2014 12:00:00 am

Was concerned with switching out old traditional washer/dryer set with front loaders due to the limited space in laundry room and due to location of existing wall vent. This retro fit box was relatively easy to install (when following accompanying directions) and it allowed us to place the unit very close to wall, where old unit had to be @ 6 inches away. Very happy with purchase. Easy to order, good quality product and fast shipping

Model 500 Retro-Fit Box 2x6

by Wendell| 4/30/2013 12:00:00 am

Several years ago I purchased a dryer box for our home and it made a huge difference. A few months ago my mother-in-law asked how I liked our dryer box. I told her it made a huge difference in the drying time, less heat in the laundry room and no more dryer dust leaking from the exhaust. I purchased the necessary items and installed it for her and she’s been extremely happy with the difference it made!

Model 500 Retro-Fit

by FuddleyPJones| 3/23/2014 12:00:00 am

The White powder-coating is nice and it installed relatively easily. The only real disappointment I had was that there was nothing to hold the box tight to the wall along the top edge. I know it says the 4' duct will do that but it didn't in my case and I had a floppy 1/8" gap along the top edge and the wall. I ended up stuffing insulation between the duct and the drywall to force the duct back and thus pull the box tighter to the wall but that took a couple of tries to get it right which meant I had to remove and install the box several times. Other than that, all went well.

Model 500 Retro-Fit Box 2x6 review

by mark hickok| 7/16/2011 12:00:00 am

I love this product I had been agravated by how far our dryer had to stand out from the wall for the vents. A quick google sarch found this product and I am VERY happy with how this solved the problem. Instrucions were easy to follow and am happy with results.

Not a typical installation

by Richard| 7/14/2015 12:00:00 am

My installation was made more difficult in that there was a gas outlet above where the dryer box needed to go. So, I had to ensure that the box was going to be as low to the floor as possible to accommodate the vent pipe that would be re-routed horizontally between the gas outlet and the box. I didn't have the extra 3/8 inch to spare at the bottom as recommended. It was a tight fit, but it did go in. The included metal tool was perfect to get the vent pipe through the hole. Great design. I cut the initial hole for the box a bit short on the top and right side on purpose. Then I enlarged it to just fit the box. That worked out best for my situation.

Perfect for new or existing construction
