Most dryers today have sophisticated features and these tips may help you avoid ruined clothing, equipment service calls, or worse yet, dryer replacement down the road.

Preparing your items for the washer also prepares them for the dryer

It may sound obvious, but it’s important to ensure that your clothes are dryer ready prior to loading the washing machine. Always check the pockets to remove coins, pens, crayons, markers and lipstick. These items could become lodged in moving parts and create the need for a service call. The dryer’s high heat melts many of these items, resulting in ruined clothing and it stains the finish of the equipment.

Before loading the dryer:

Know which items can withstand high heat and dry those items together. Don't overload it! Large loads take longer to dry and use more energy. If the clothes don't dry completely, you end up with a musty odor.

Use a dryer lint brush

Do you own a dryer lint brush? If not, you should get one as soon as you can. Dryer lint brushes are essential when it comes to maintaining your dryer.

Periodically, you should be using a dryer lint brush to get into all the nooks and crannies of the screen to remove any excess dirt and debris that is adhering to it. It is also useful in keeping the slot that the lint screen slides into nice and clean.
